It was decided early in the planning stages that Needham’s Tercentennial Celebration would aim to touch every resident in town, no matter their age, and one that would reach into all four corners of the town. The committee eventually grew to 17 with each member in charge of a different aspect of community life, from schools to senior citizens to the business community.

The key decision was also made that as many events as possible should be free to the public, and thus a fundraising subcommittee was formed and the Tercentennial Committee filed for non-profit status.

In January of 2010 a final calendar of events was approved with several signature events that will stretch throughout the course of the year, beginning in November 2010 and culminating in a gala and time capsule installation on the actual 300th anniversary in November 2011. The calendar is also filled with several smaller events and ongoing events that residents and students can participate in throughout the year.

Today an estimated 150 people on over a dozen different subcommittees are hard at work planning Needham’s event of a lifetime. Hundreds more will be needed as the year progresses. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit the volunteer page of this website.
